Roots and Fruit: Ministry, Family, and God’s Faithfulness

Returning Home From July 22–29, I had the privilege of returning to my hometown in KwaZulu-Natal. It wasn’t just a trip to familiar places, but a journey of ministry, family, and reflection on the faithfulness of God.

Being back home felt like stepping into sacred ground — a place where my walk with Christ was shaped and where many discipleship journeys first began. It was a time to reconnect, to listen, and to see again how God continues His work long after we have planted seeds.

“Being confident of this, that He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 1:6

Reconnecting with Disciples

One of the highlights of my time in KZN was reconnecting with soldiers I have discipled over the years. Hearing their stories — how they continue to follow Christ, make disciples, and live out the gospel — reminded me of the power of investing in people.

Discipleship doesn’t end when seasons change or when geography separates us. The Word planted in good soil keeps growing. Listening to their testimonies affirmed once more that the call to disciple is never wasted.

“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” — 1 Corinthians 3:7

Tender Moments with Family

Equally precious was the time spent with family. Ministry can often feel fast-paced, but this trip was a chance to slow down, share meals, laugh, and enjoy conversations with those closest to me.

Family is a gift from the Lord, and moments like these reminded me that ministry begins at home. These tender exchanges were just as sacred as preaching or teaching, because Christ is glorified in love and unity.

“How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!” — Psalm 133:1

Sharing the Mission in Cape Town

One of the most meaningful parts of this journey was the chance to share with my family and church community in Durban what God has been doing in Cape Town. I testified of how, through campus ministry, students are being discipled, the lost are being reached, and leaders are being raised.

For many back home, Cape Town can feel like a distant mission field. But being able to share firsthand stories helped them see how their prayers, encouragement, and faith are part of the work God is doing.

“How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent?” — Romans 10:14–15

Looking Back, Looking Forward

This journey back to KZN reminded me of something profound: God is the same God who plants us, the same God who sends us, and the same God who brings us back full circle to testify of His faithfulness.

KZN is where He planted my roots. Cape Town is where He has me now — reaching students, making disciples, and witnessing to the lost. Both are chapters in His bigger story, and in both, His faithfulness shines through.

Looking back, I carry gratitude. Looking forward, I carry faith. And in both directions, I carry joy, knowing that “to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever!” (Ephesians 3:21).
