“For I know the plans I have for you…” – Jeremiah 29:11 In a recent interview, I had the opportunity to reflect on my life story—one marked not just by hardship, but by a deeper journey of discovering resilience through the lens of purpose.

Resilience is often misunderstood. The world says it's about bouncing back or coping with challenges. But true resilience—biblical resilience—is birthed from Faith, Hope, and Love. It’s not just about surviving life’s storms, but walking through them with purpose and coming out refined on the other side.

The Dream is Free, But the Journey is Costly

One quote that has always stuck with me came from my founding Pastor Nel Roberts:

"The dream is free, but the journey will cost you everything."

Purpose is the reason you're alive. It's why you’ve endured what you have. And it's what anchors you when the storms come. But the road from purpose to promise is never easy—it comes with testing, waiting, and trusting.

Looking at the lives of Joseph and the Israelites, we see this same journey:

  • Joseph had a dream, but before the palace came the pit and the prison.

  • The Israelites were promised a land flowing with milk and honey, but first came Egypt, then the wilderness, before stepping into the Promised Land.

Their stories show us a pattern I call the Three Tests of Life:Purpose, Process & Promise.

1. Purpose – Why Are You Here?

Purpose is the starting point. It’s where God shows us why we were created—not to live for ourselves, but for His glory.

“He who loves his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will find it.” (John 12:25)

2. Process – The Refining Journey

The process is where resilience is truly formed. It’s where the dream is tested, and your faith is refined. In this space, we learn obedience, character, and total dependence on God.

3. Promise – Holding On in Hope

God is faithful. His promises are sure. But they often require courage to take hold of. As God told Joshua:

“Be strong and courageous... for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)

That same encouragement stands for you today. If you’re in a season of uncertainty or waiting, remember: your resilience is not in your strength—but in knowing God is writing a bigger story.

Final Encouragement

Maybe you’re in the pit, or walking through your own wilderness. Maybe the promise feels distant. Don’t give up.

Resilience is not just about enduring life—it's about enduring it unto something greater: God’s purpose for your life.

Let your faith anchor you. Let hope fuel you. Let love lead you.

And remember: The dream may be free, but the journey will cost you everything. But it’s worth it.
